Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre is pleased to announce the return of the apprenticeship program, which offers dancers exceptional professional experience and exciting performance opportunities with the PBT company, as well as optional academic courses.
Two paid apprenticeship positions are available for the 2022-2023 performance season for dancers ages 18-21. Video auditions will be accepted from February 14, 2022 to March 14, 2022. Please review application requirements below.
Positions include the cost of health benefits and academic tuition, and apprentices will be under the same guidelines as the company dancers by the American Guild of Musical Artists. Apprenticeship positions have been made possible through a generous gift from Leslie Fleischner and her late husband Hans.
Two new apprentices — who must be high school graduates — will be considered from a video audition process open to the public, as well as PBT School’s current 2021-2022 school year program and summer 2022 program. For more information on PBT School’s summer programs, click here. Please note, current PBT School students will be evaluated by PBT Artistic Director Susan Jaffe in person during class time and will not need to submit a video audition. New apprentices will start their positions with PBT in the 2022-2023 season.
During this one-year program, dancers will build their professional experience while having the opportunity to continue their academic studies. Apprentices will train and perform alongside the PBT company under the instruction of Artistic Director Susan Jaffe, and will have the option to pursue certificate or college degree programs through partnerships with Seton Hill University, Community College of Allegheny County and Chatham University.
Video auditions will be accepted from February 14, 2022 to March 14, 2022. To be considered for a position, you will need to submit:
- Full body photo is first arabesque (en pointe for women)
- Classical variation piece
- Contemporary solo (1 min. long)
No warm-ups, leg warmers, skirts or tutus should be worn in photos or videos. Ladies should be dressed in pink or flesh-toned tights with any color leotard. Men should be dressed in black tights with a form-fitting white shirt or leotard.
The PBT Apprenticeship Program was generously underwritten by Leslie Fleischner and her late husband Hans. We are grateful for their thoughtful support of young dancers pursuing careers in the arts.
