A Jerome Robbins & Leonard Bernstein Centennial Celebration…
PBT celebrates the 100th birthdays of collaborators Jerome Robbins and Leonard Bernstein with three company premieres. The theatrical West Side Story Suite samples iconic songs (with dancer vocal debuts!) and Tony-winning choreography from the duo’s groundbreaking musical (1957) and film. PBT also debuts in Robbins’ first ballet and claim to fame: Fancy Free (1944), an early Bernstein collaboration that inspired the Broadway hit On the Town. Rounding out the program is a more rarely seen Robbins masterwork: his classical In the Night (1970), which sets romantic pas de deux for three couples to four Chopin nocturnes.

Répétiteur Julio Monge (West Side Story Suite), Bart Cook (In the Night and Fancy Free) and vocal coach Joan Barber join Artistic Director Terrence S. Orr for a lively audience Q & A. Located at the front of the orchestra section in the theater; no reservations necessary.

This weekend is a celebration of the 100th anniversaries of the births of Jerome Robbins and his life-long friend and collaborator, Leonard Bernstein. Tonight PBT Maestro Charles Barker and Artistic Director Terrence S. Orr discuss Bernstein – one of America’s greatest composers – and his brilliant scores for Fancy Free and West Side Story Suite. Never seen ballet class before? This is your chance! Watch a few minutes of the end of the company’s warm-up class on stage; then Artistic Director Terrence S. Orr rounds out the program with a ballet preview and a Q & A with the audience. In the theater, no reservations necessary.
