Complete with flurrying snow, a colossal Christmas tree and magic tricks galore, this holiday spectacular features over 100 dancers, 150 costumes and Tchaikovsky’s exultant score. Since its 1892 premiere, The Nutcracker has held a special place in holiday traditions all over the world. PBT adds its own spin on the time and place with a turn-of-the-century setting incorporating Pittsburgh’s own landmarks, historical figures and personality. Each performance features a unique casting combination, giving regulars the chance to see a variety of dancers perform iconic roles like Marie, the Nephew, the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier.

Cap off the opening night performance this lively post-show talk back! Artistic Director Terrence S. Orr, Soloist Diana Yohe, and Corps de Ballet dancer Joseph Parr discuss the performance and take your questions about The Nutcracker. Located at the front of the orchestra section; begins right after the performance. No reservations necessary.

Never seen ballet class before? This is your chance! Watch a few minutes of the end of the company’s warm-up class on stage; then Artistic Director Terrence S. Orr rounds out the program with a ballet preview and a Q & A with the audience. In the theater, no reservations necessary.
Date TBD, 12 p.m: Audio-described performance
A live narrative of the ballet for patrons with vision impairment. Click here for more information.
Date TBD, 1 – 1:30 p.m: Family Pointe
Bring the whole family to this program to learn about the story of the ballet! We’ll meet the mischievous sheep characters from Act 2, and try out some of their dance moves. Date TBD, 12 – 12:50 p.m: Ballet Adventures
The best way for children to connect with a ballet performance is to dance it themselves! No dance experience is required for this fun, 50-minute class. Warm up, learn basic ballet steps and try out modified choreography from The Nutcracker. Appropriate for boys and girls, ages 5 – 13. Fee: $25.00 plus cost of ticket to the 2 p.m. performance.
