2022/2023 Student Matinees

We look forward to welcoming students and teachers to experience the magic of live theater! Both of PBT’s student matinees take place at the Benedum Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Pittsburgh.

The Nutcracker – Friday, December 9, 2022, 11 a.m.

In this distinctly Pittsburgh production of a holiday classic, PBT’s The Nutcracker follows Marie, her Nutcracker prince and the Sugar Plum Fairy on a journey into the Land of Enchantment. Five fanciful scenes, more than 150 unique costumes and Tchaikovsky’s enduring score make The Nutcracker a can’t-miss holiday tradition.

The Sleeping Beauty with the PBT Orchestra – Friday, May 19, 2023, 12 p.m.

Drama and romance are palpable in this modernized production of the most classical of all full-length ballets. The Sleeping Beauty tells the story of a beautiful princess cursed into an eternal slumber until she is awoken by true love’s kiss. Filled with magnificent sets and costumes, an iconic Tchaikovsky score with live orchestra, and incredible ballet technique, this wonderful fairytale is fun for the whole family.

  • Schools with 50 – 100% free and reduced lunch student population: $7.00 per person

Professional development: Three-hour workshops to help teachers prepare their students for the matinee experience. Click here for more information!

Transportation funding: Up to $200 reimbursement available with professional development workshop attendance.

Just announced! 

PBT is excited to offer a live stream of The Nutcracker student matinee! Schools and home school groups who can’t make it to the theater for our in person performance can watch the student matinee live, on Friday, Dec. 9 at 11 a.m.

Live Stream Pricing Details:

  • Schools with 50 – 100% free and reduced lunch student population: $35 per classroom / $350 for the entire school
