The Loti Falk Scholarship

Loti Falk Gaffney, founding Board of Trustees Chair

1969-1987

Those who knew Loti Falk Gaffney describe her as unshakeable — a woman who poured her heart and soul into the causes she loved — and as Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre’s fiercest advocate. She was connected at the highest levels of Pittsburgh society and garnered crucial early support for PBT from friends and businesses. Over her two decades of leadership, she wore virtually every conceivable hat at PBT — lead fundraiser, board chair, executive director and even interim artistic director. Yet she was not afraid to dig into the day-to-day work of a ballet company: stitching costumes, taking ticket sales over the phone, laying dance floor and more. She and her husband Leon also gave PBT sustained financial support, including fully funding its first studio headquarters and current home on Liberty Avenue. Their backing was no less than a lifeline for the company. Loti’s generosity, drive, positivity and work ethic are a heritage that continues to define PBT today.
