Video Auditions

Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre School will be accepting video auditions for the 2022-2023 school year programs beginning Dec. 1, 2021 through May 1, 2022. All video auditions will be submitted through the Acceptd platform, linked directly below on this page.

*PLEASE NOTE: If you are interested in submitting a video audition, students must submit separate auditions for each program. Students will only be charged for the first application they submit. Submit an additional application using the following coupon code: 02pbt22. All additional applications submitted with the code applied will be free of charge.

Programs listed below will require a video or live audition.

– Pre-professional Program  |  Fall 2022-Spring 2023 (Ages 13+)

Students 18 years or older who attend the ballet summer intensive or school year programs will be considered by Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre Artistic Director Susan Jaffe for apprentice positions with PBT Company!

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

All applications must include: 

  • Headshot
  • Full body photos of the applicant in first arabesque (en pointe for women) and in tendu à la seconde en face.
  • Photo requirements:
    • No warm ups, leg warmers or skirts worn in photos
    • Ladies in flesh toned or pink tights, solid color leotard that contrast from their background
    • Men in white t-shirt, full-length black tights, tights and shoes contrasting from floor and background
  • Dance resume – only required for the “Company Experience” Workshop and Pre-professional Division Program

2022-2023 Video Requirements 

Videos must be sent in American standard format.

  • Only perform one side of each combination
  • Videos should be no more than 15 minutes long
  • No warm ups, leg warmers or skirts worn in video
  • Student should be the only dancer in the space
  • Ladies in flesh toned or pink tights, solid color leotard that contrast from their background
  • Men in white t-shirt, full-length black tights, tights and shoes contrasting from floor and background

Intensive Summer Program Video Requirements  (ages 12+)

  • Barre work (including plies, tendus, fondu, adagio, and grande battements)
  • Center work (adagio, pirouettes, petit, and grand allegro)

Additional exercises for Ladies on pointe:

  • Relevé, Échappé Passé
  • Pirouette
  • Relevés in Arabesque
  • Piqué Diagonal 

Additional exercise for Men:

  • Petit Allegro with beats
  • Pirouettes
  • Tours en l’air

“Company Experience” Workshop (ages 16+) and the Pre-professional 2022-2023 Program (ages 13+) Requirements

  • Barre work (including plies, tendus, fondu, adagio, and grande battements)
  • Center work (adagio, pirouettes, petit, and grand allegro)
    • Center work should be done en pointe for all dancers interested in the “Company Experience” Workshop and the Pre-professional Division Graduate Program (ages 17+), if space is safe to do center en pointe.

Additional exercises for Ladies on pointe:

  • Relevé, Échappé Passé
  • Pirouette
  • Relevés in Arabesque
  • Piqué Diagonal 

Additional exercise for Men:

  • Petit Allegro with beats
  • Pirouettes
  • Tours en l’air

Additional classical variation 

Recommended: Contemporary combination or variation
