UPMC Virtual Seminar Series 

Catherine Hagan Vargo (UPMC Sports Medicine Physical Therapist) and Jeff Lucchino (UPMC Sports Medicine Nutritionist) will be presenting a series of virtual seminars + Q&As for the Community Division. The series will be bi-weekly, spanning across April and May, and focus on topics such as diet and nutrition, injury prevention and cross training for dancers. The seminars are free, with a suggested donation of $5.

Presenter Bios

Catherine C. Hagan Vargo, PT, DPT, OCS, SCS

Catherine Hagan Vargo, PT, DPT, OCS, SCS is a graduate of Duquesne University for both her undergraduate degrees (Biology and Health Sciences 2005) and her graduate degree (Doctorate in Physical Therapy 2007). She is a board-certified specialist in Orthopedics (2011) and Sports Medicine (2015) physical therapy through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. She currently provides PT services for UPMC Sports Medicine at the Rooney Sports Medicine Center and serves as residency faculty for both the Orthopedic and Sports residency programs. Catherine has presented at the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) national conference, International Association for Dance Medicine and Science (IADMS) annual conference and numerous local events on orthopedic, sports, and dance related topics. She also serves as an adjunct faculty member for Duquesne University on the topics of Differential Diagnosis and Examination Methods. Catherine provides PT services on the professional level to Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre and on the collegiate level to the Conservatory of Performing Arts at Point Park University in addition to the many local dance studios in the Pittsburgh community.

Jeff Lucchino, MS, RDN, CSSD

Jeff Lucchino is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) and Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD). Jeff specializes in Sports Dietetics,  & Performance Nutrition. Jeff earned his Bachelor of Science from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) in 2007. He then received his Master of Science in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences with a Concentration in Human Performance and Wellness from the University of Pittsburgh in 2009. Jeff is currently the Director of Sports Nutrition for UPMC Sports Medicine (2016-present). In this role Jeff supports all areas of Sports Medicine including performance nutrition, concussion, joint replacement, and impact injuries. Jeff supports Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre (2016-present), as well as several Division 1 University athletic programs including, Duquesne (2017-present), Robert Morris (2018-present) & Saint Francis University (2017-present). Over the past several years Jeff has worked with athletes at the professional level (NBA, NHL, & NFL) and Olympic level. Jeff and his wife Kristen have two boys, three year old Jordan and one month old Carter.
