Train like a dancer with community classes at Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre.

Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or a fitness enthusiast, ballet-based fitness works all the major muscle groups, burns calories and builds lean muscle — all in an uplifting environment. From Pilates and yoga to barre fitness and ballet, our Community Division offers options for teens and adults, ages 14 and up, to attend on a flexible, drop-in basis.

Ballet

Beginning Ballet

Beginning Ballet is designed for the adult student, who has little or no prior ballet experience or is easing back into ballet. Each class begins at barre and ends with a vigorous series of ballet combinations at center. Classes feature live piano accompaniment. Comfortable, fitted athletic attire. Socks, bare feet or ballet slippers.

Intermediate Ballet

Intermediate classes require prior ballet experience. Students will learn new combinations and expand their movement vocabulary from the beginning level. Classes feature live piano accompaniment. Comfortable, fitted athletic attire. Socks, bare feet or ballet slippers.

Advanced Ballet

Advanced classes require prior ballet experience. Students will build increasingly complex combinations at barre and center. Classes feature live piano accompaniment. Comfortable, fitted athletic attire. Socks, bare feet or ballet slippers.

Beginning Pointe

Students learn pointe work essentials and begin integrating it in their center combinations. Classes feature live piano accompaniment. Students must receive instructor endorsement before beginning en pointe. Suggested Attire: Comfortable, fitted athletic attire. Socks, bare feet or ballet slippers. Pointe shoes required.

Dance Fitness & Cardio

Beginning Hip-Hop

Set to the funky fresh beats of today and yesterday, Beginning Hip-Hop is open to all levels. Join the movement with a perfect mix of cardio and choreography. Comfortable, fitted athletic attire. Socks or bare feet.

Intermediate Hip-Hop

This high impact class is structured to give the working dancer continued training in the world of commercial dance. Class will begin with a traditional warm up, followed by combination-based learning. Emphasis will be placed on execution, style, proper weight distribution, and overall performance value. Occasionally,  elements of jazz-funk/street jazz and various street styles genres will be explored. Geared toward individuals that are comfortable with a high-intensity and fast-paced learning environment. Comfortable, fitted athletic attire. Socks or bare feet.

 

Core Conditioning

For dancers, building a strong core is key to optimal performance. This express class focuses on strengthening abdominal and lower back muscles with Pilates-based exercises. Suitable for all fitness levels. Comfortable, fitted athletic attire. Socks or bare feet.

Contemporary/Jazz

This open level contemporary class will investigate concepts of contemporary jazz and modern techniques through warm-up, floor exercises and combinations. Modifications will be given to accommodate various skill and comfort levels. Comfortable exercise apparel with bare feet, socks or jazz shoes. 

PBT Barre Fitness

Step up to the barre for a challenging workout that combines the principles of ballet with strength-training and sculpting exercises, cardio and stretching. Comfortable exercise apparel with bare feet, sticky socks or ballet slippers.

 

PBT Conditioning for Dancers

This total-body workout combines Pilates and ballet technique with strength training and boot camp based exercises to improve strength, stamina, balance and alignment. Dance experience is not required. Recommended for intermediate to advanced fitness levels. Comfortable, fitted athletic attire. Socks or bare feet.
