Community Division 

Work out like a dancer with community classes at Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre. Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or a fitness enthusiast, ballet-based fitness works all the major muscle groups.

It promotes flexibility and coordination, builds lean muscle and burns calories. Best of all, it offers a source of self-expression and fun. From Pilates and yoga to barre fitness and ballet, our Community Division offers options for teens and adults, ages 14 and up, to attend on a drop-in basis with flexible attendance.

Dance Fitness & Cardio

PBT Barre Fitness (60 minutes)

Step up to the barre for a challenging workout that combines the principles of ballet with strength-training exercises, cardio and stretching. The workout consists of a cardio warm up in the center of the room, followed by lower body sculpting exercises at the barre, upper body exercises with small weights, and Pilates-based exercises to strengthen the core.

Yoga (60 minutes)

Yoga for all fitness levels in various styles of Vinyasa, Yin, and Gentle Yoga

PBT Cardio Dance Fitness

Jump into this high-energy, fun cardio class to sweat, burn calories and get moving! In this dance-based, cardio aerobics class, each song is choreographed to popular songs with easy-to-follow steps. Suitable for all fitness levels, no dance experience needed.

Core Conditioning

For dancers, building and maintaining a strong core is a key component in optimal performance. This 30-minute express class will focus on strengthening the muscles of the abdomen and lower back with Pilates-based exercises. Suitable for all fitness levels.

PBT Conditioning for Dancers

This class combines Pilates and ballet technique with strength training and boot camp based exercises to provide a total-body workout. Students will improve strength, stamina, balance and alignment using weights, bands, or body weight to target the muscles used most when dancing. Dance experience is not required. Recommended for intermediate to advanced fitness levels.

Pilates Mat (60 minutes)

Pilates mat classes are designed for beginner and intermediate level students. The Pilates method builds strength, flexibility, agility and alignment for a sleek, toned body.

Ballet

Beginning Ballet (90 minutes)

Beginning Ballet is designed for the adult student, who has little or no prior ballet experience or is easing back into ballet. Each class begins at barre and ends with a vigorous series of ballet combinations at center. Classes feature live piano accompaniment.

Intermediate Ballet (90 minutes)

Intermediate classes require prior ballet experience. Students will learn new combinations and expand their movement vocabulary from the beginning level. Classes feature live piano accompaniment.

Advanced Ballet (90 minutes)

Advanced classes require prior ballet experience. Students will build increasingly complex combinations at barre and center. Classes feature live piano accompaniment.

Beginning Pointe (30 minutes)

Students learn the essentials of dancing en pointe and will begin integrating pointe work in their center combinations. Classes feature live piano accompaniment. Students must receive instructor endorsement before beginning en pointe.

Private Pilates (50-55 minutes)

The Pilates method is a conditioning system that creates a sleek, toned body while promoting strength, flexibility and agility. PBT School offers private and semi-private Pilates instruction using the “Reformer,” “Cadillac” and other apparatus.
