Taiwanese Pianist Pearl Kuan-Yi Lu, who was described as “a wonderfully talented pianist with virtuoso technique, fine musicality and special personality” from Maestro Eugen Indjic, has received her Graduate Performance Diploma in Solo Piano Performance at Jacob School of Music, Indiana University in 2017 under the guidance of Mr. Emile Naoumoff, and Master of Music in Piano Performance at Taipei University of the Arts with distinction under the guidance of Professor Yi Fan-Chiang in 2015.
She was the First Prize Winner at National Excellence Prize Competition in Taiwan 2013, Second Prize Winner at the NTNU Concerto Competition 2010, a finalist of the 16th International Chopin Competition in Asia 2015, semi-finalist of the 3rd Asia-Pacific International Chopin Competition in Korea, and the Excellence Award Winner at the 7th New Art Music Competition in Taiwan 2015. She has also been awarded the Rotary Scholarship for her achievement in music from the Rotary Educational Foundation in 2015. Kuan-Yi has performed in Taipei, Tainan (Taiwan), in Graz, Vienna, Groningen (Holland), Washington DC, Bloomington, (U.S), Vancouver, and Toronto (Canada).
Her work as a ballet pianist at the ballet department at Jacob School of Music, Indiana University was highly praised by renowned ballet masters and mistresses such as Michael Vernon, Kyra Nichols, Christian Claessens and Carla Korbes. Michael Vernon commented on her art of ballet accompaniment as having “flawless technique and her sense of the dynamics needed to illustrate the ballet exercises I give to the dancers to become artists of the highest caliber is impeccable” and stated that she is the very best pianist that has ever played for the Ballet Department of Jacob School of Music. She has also been an active collaborative pianist since 2007, having worked with oboist Linda Strommen, serving as a studio collaborative pianist for violinist Mark Kaplan, Bassist Kurt Muroki and Violist Atar Arad, and serving as a Church Pianist at Evangelical Community Church in Bloomington, IN.
She was commissioned to compose the piano arrangement for the Official Bloomington Bicentennial Anthem by the original songwriter Mr. Jeff Connen in 2018. She is highly praised for her well-rounded caliber of being a collaborative pianist of knowledge of diverse music.
