Danielle Downey, of Erie, Pennsylvania, joined Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre in 2007. She received her early training with the Lake Erie Ballet and attended summer programs with Boston Ballet, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre School and Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet. She studied in the school at PBT for two years prior to joining the company. Featured roles with PBT include the first-movement principal of George Balanchine’s Western Symphony; Tall Girl in Balanchine’s Rubies; Big Swans in Terrence S. Orr’s Swan Lake; Odalisques in Le Corsaire; Tiger Lily in Jorden Morris’ Peter Pan; the Queen of Hearts in Derek Deane’s Alice in Wonderland; the third shade variation in La Bayadère; and Arabian, Snow Queen, and the Sugar Plum Fairy in Orr’s The Nutcracker. Some contemporary credits include Jiří Kylián’s Petite Mort and Sinfonietta; Jerome Robbins’ The Concert; Mark Morris’ Maelstrom, Sandpaper Ballet, and Drink to Me Only With Thine Eyes; and Twyla Tharp’s Octet and Nine Sinatra Songs.
