CHILDREN'S DIVISION
Ages 2-7
Classes for children ages 2 through 7 with weekday and weekend options. No placement class is needed for the Children’s Division.
Parents should register based on the age of the child on September 1. The student will be assessed by the class instructor and may be re-assigned to a different level if necessary. Half of total annual tuition is due on or before the date of the first class; remaining half of total annual tuition is due on or before the start of the second semester.
Mommy & Me classes, age two, offer an introduction to the art of ballet in a nurturing environment. Children begin to explore the world of dance through movement, music and rhythm.
Pre-Ballet classes, Levels A through D, are offered for ages three to six. Imagery, imagination, and self-expression are encouraged while developing a foundation for academic ballet technique.
Beginning Ballet classes expand upon the previous level with more focus on body placement, flexibility and strength.
No pre-evaluation or placement class is required to register for classes of the Children's Division.
STUDENT DIVISION
Ages 7+
Five levels of focused, consistent training with the distinguished staff of PBTS faculty. Students are challenged to strengthen their ballet technique while they learn other dance disciplines and repertory. Emphasis is on the enjoyment of dance within the respect and discipline of classical ballet training.
It is not uncommon to spend more than one year in a level. Advancement through the Levels is based on faculty recommendation and the approval of the School Director.
Returning students should register for the class indicated on their year-end evaluation. New students are required to schedule and attend a placement class to assure proper placement – phone: 412-281-6727.
Performance Opportunities
At the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre School, performance opportunities are part of the school philosophy. Student Division students perform in the school’s annual Spring Performance. Spring Performance is designed to reflect the student's journey from Level I to Pre-Professional training. Students perform at the Byham Theater. Throughout the year, some dancers in the Student Division may have the opportunity to perform in PBT Company repertoire at the Benedum Center.
