Uncommon with Ensemble Orchestra
February 3-12, 2012 - August Wilson Center
Experience Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre at the intimate August Wilson Center – the perfect venue to see up-close and personal the passion and athleticism of Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre's dancers in a dynamic program of mixed repertoire. The theme of our first performance at the newest jewel in the Crown of Cultural District performance venues is Uncommon. Featuring a World Premiere choreographed by Dwight Rhoden to the music of Johann S. Bach, joined by Mark Morris’ Maelstrom and Brahm’s Quintet by Dennis Nahat, audiences will be treated to an experience that will challenge any predetermined ideas regarding the relationship between classical composition and ballet.
A Streetcar Named Desire
March 9-11, 2012 - Benedum Center
A jarring portrayal of clashing cultures, John Neumeier’s adaptation of Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire lays bare the pure emotion of dance. Taking audiences inside the tormented mind of aging southern belle Blanch Du Bois, the production alternates between past and present, echoing her unraveling sense of reality. The set, costuming and sound design provide a rich backdrop to the powerful and evocative choreography. This is sure to be an assault on the senses of the highest order.
*Recommended for mature audiences only.
Coppélia with Orchestra

Take one life size doll, two quarreling lovers and a disastrous case of mistaken identity, and you have ballet’s light-hearted masterpiece, Coppélia! Delight in the playful antics of this beloved classic that has been described by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette as a “classical dance dream…balanced with a contemporary sense of comedic timing.”
