In Motion Film Series

Feb 24, 2013
The Red Shoes

Join PBT on Sunday, February 24 at 2 pm for the iconic ballet film The Red Shoes starring Anton Walbrook, Marius Goring, and Moira Shearer with a special appearance of Leonard Massine. Noted as director Martin Scorcese's favorite film of all time, this film depicts the struggle between the creation of art and a life outside of it. Under the iron fist of ballet impresario Boris Lermontov, dancers realize the full promise of their talents at a price: utter devotion to their art. Young ballerina Victoria Page is poised for superstardom when she falls in love with a composer and finds herself torn between the demands of ballet and those of her heart.  Like the ballets in Unspoken, this film highlights the power of dance to speak in ways that words cannot.

All screenings begin at 2 pm and are held at the George R. White Theatre located in the Point Park University Center (414 Wood St.). Parking is available on-street and in local parking ramps (see map below). Each screening will begin with a short lecture by a local scholar or artist about significant aspects of the film and its connection to the upcoming ballet. Immediately following each screening, PBT cordially invites you to a short reception in the lobby.

RSVPs are kindly requested by the Tuesday prior to the film screening. To RSVP, please contact Lisa Auel at or 412-454-9109.

The second annual “In Motion” Film Series for the 2012-2013 season is presented in partnership with Point Park University and the John P. Harris Film Society. The In Motion Film Series showcases films that thematically connect to an upcoming production giving patrons an opportunity to experience the far-reaching effects of timeless stories and characters across many art forms.
