Harris N. Ferris
A recognized leader in the dance world, Ferris has been Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre’s Executive Director since 2006. Over the six years of his tenure, Ferris had helped to strengthen the company, and expand its national and international profile, restructuring the organization’s strong financial footing with a 46% elimination of debt and a return to balanced budget operations, while continuing to grow programming.
The restoration of the PBT Orchestra occurred in his first year, and the company most recently completed its first international tour in over two decades.
In partnership with the Artistic Director, Ferris has helped usher in a series of new productions that have elevated the company’s artistic profile, including John Neumeier’s A Streetcar Named Desire, Jean Christophe Maillot’s Romeo et Juliette, and others.
A former dancer, Ferris’ career began in Buffalo, NY, where he was both principal dancer and Executive Director of the Empire State Ballet, subsequently becoming Managing Director of Princeton American Repertory Ballet in New Jersey and the Nevada Ballet in Las Vegas, in each case strengthening touring, finances, and artistic scope.
A native of New Jersey, Ferris attended Bard College, holds a BA from SUNY Buffalo, and an MBA from Rutgers. He currently serves on the Board of Dance USA on its Leadership Council.
